Real Estate and Older Americans

Transcript:

This is the California real estate update for November 17th. Hello this is Mary West and this segment is sponsored by Group 1 Real Estate.

This week we look at two real estate studies.

One study is by Kansas State University researchers who looked at the relationship between holding mortgage debt into retirement and financial satisfaction. Researchers found that debt into retirement was unappealing to risk-averse homeowners. However, there was not a correlation by those who are comfortable with debt in general.

In a different study by the Urban Institute researchers looked at equity patterns among older households before, during, and after the recession. The study revealed that most older homeowners today have amassed a lot of equity in their homes.

These studies combined paint a favorable lifestyle for older Americans.
