The background image is a Stillman Saw Set, patented in 1846. For my unknowing friends a saw set is used to bend the teeth on a handsaw slightly out of the plane of the blade. This opens up a kerf (the cut line made) to allow the blade to progress through the wood without hinder. I became the distinguished owner of one when I purchased a toolbox on Ebay.
