Sextant Box

I was asked to make a new box for the sextant contained in this box. When I received the box the finish was gone. The sides were made of mahogany and the top and bottom were plywood. There was water damage to the top and bottom. The bottom glue joint on one side was seperating. The original glue was water soluble and I forced a complete seperation of the top and bottom. I replaced the top and bottom with cabinet grade cherry ply and smoothed out all the surfaces. I stained the box with a custom blend stain, shellaced it and the put a couple of coats of urathane as the box was going onboard a yatch. I replaced the handle, added the corner guards and reused the escutcheon as it is unique to the sextant as seen below. The little character on the escutcheonis using a sextant. The box measured approxamatly 15" x 15" x 8".
