This fireplace mantel system decorates a ventless gas firebox. The back board is oak veneered ply. The surround components, moldings and mantel are maple, the door panels are walnut and the top panel area is maple. This is gas firebox and does not require a stone or fire retardant hearth. The hearth is what I refer to as "Copiague Marble" (pronounced 'co-peg'). It has a plywood base and is finished with a painted faux marble design. The tiles around the firebox are real marble. The fireplace surround is 6' across and 5' high (above the hearth) and the top paneling is 3' high and there are 2 entry doors behind the painting to a storage area. The finish is a custom made stain protected with numerous coats of shellac. All of the mouldings were milled in my shop. The painting on panel is one of my creations entitled Mathematics.
